Acrylic & Polypropylene Fabrics and Cushions

Acrylic and polypropylene fabrics are excellent choices for outdoor cushions due to their water and UV resistance. Our cushions often feature water-draining/waterproof systems and removable, washable covers, facilitating proactive maintenance.

General Cleaning (for spills and surface dirt):

  • For most stains, clean promptly with mild soap and water (under 40°C). Prompt action is crucial for preventing stains from setting.

  • Gently scrub with a soft brush or sponge. Avoid harsh scrubbing, which can damage the fabric fibers.

  • Rinse thoroughly with clean water (a garden hose can be used) to remove all soap residue.

  • Air dry completely in a well-ventilated area, never use a dryer.

  • Regularly brush off loose dirt and debris to prevent it from becoming embedded in the fabric.

  • Blot spills immediately with a clean, dry cloth from outside in; do not rub, as this can spread the stain.

Washing Removable Cushion Covers:

  • Check the label first – most removable covers can be machine washed at 40°C on a gentle cycle with mild laundry soap.

  • For stubborn stains on appropriate fabrics (check care tag), 1 cup of bleach can sometimes be added to the wash.

  • Do not iron or tumble dry, as excessive heat can damage the fibers or coatings.

  • For a smooth fit, replace covers while slightly damp and allow them to air dry completely on the cushion foam.

  • Close zippers before machine washing to prevent damage.

General Maintenance and Storage:

  • Proactive storage is highly recommended. Store cushions in a dry, well-ventilated area during winter or extended periods of non-use.

  • Cover cushions overnight or when not in use with breathable covers to protect against dew, dirt, and light rain.

  • Ensure cushions are completely clean and dry before covering or storing to prevent mildew and odors.

  • Elevate cushions slightly during storage to allow air circulation.

  • Consider airtight containers, waterproof bags, or deck boxes for optimal winter storage in dry climates, but ensure cushions are perfectly dry first.

  • Regularly shake out cushions to remove dust and debris.

  • Inspect storage area for moisture or pests before storing cushions.
