While sheltering from the sun under a palm tree, Kris Van Puyvelde looked up, and saw the leaves slowly wave in the wind. It made him wonder why a garden umbrella couldn’t look this nice. That moment the idea to create a strutless umbrella with the looks of a palm tree was born.

Two years later Palma stunned at the Salone in Milan, and shortly after won the prestigious ‘Best of best’ Red Dot Design award.

The sleek and pure design hides a patented masterpiece of engineering, that provides the most convenient operation possible. All you need to do is take hold of one of the arms and start to lift the umbrella. The mechanism does the rest, raising it to a fully open position. By pulling down on one of the arms, you can retract it in just the same way. No longer do you need to get under the canopy and push the umbrella open or close. You just stand back and let the Palma do it for you.

Even the base is revolutionary. You can take that literally, as the base revolves around the pole, so you can roll the umbrella around  your terrace on the tire fitted on the rim, to follow the sun.
